DIY Home Decor | Wire & Cork Holder

Todays DIY is a quick make that was a concept test but became the final DIY straight away [it doesn't happen often], but this really was simple and made within 15 minutes.

I wanted some interesting desk tidy/holders and I have had the cork coasters from IKEA in my drawer for a couple of years, and they are the perfect base for this DIY.  The materials, time and cost of this DIY is really low, but I'm really pleased with the final look.
My original idea had thicker wire lengths used, but after struggling to find what I was after and at a reasonable price, I found some coated sugar craft wire that I thought would do the trick.
I used 3 wires and cut each length in to 4, before using pliers to bend each length in to a 45 degree (approx) angle.

As the wire is a little more flexible than planned, I didn't want to cause the wire to bend fixing it in to the cork, so used a toothpick to create markers before adding my wire.

You can be precise about your spacing and placement, however; as this was primarily a concept test - I went with the aesthetics, rather than mathematics, and the design allowed for this too.
Place each wire in turn into the cork and ensure that it is secure.

Once the round has been completed, create and overlapping round, placing the start of each wire in the centre of a previous [I think the photo will explain this better than I am!]

When this round is completed, even the heights of the wire and use your hands to create the shaping you like - whether the wires stand vertically, or spread at a slight angle like mine:

I also create a second catch-all tidy, using the same number of wires, but cutting in half so that the holder was taller:

I've used my holders as a desk tidy - but these would also be great for keeping any surface tidy - in the hallway to catch keys and spare change, or on the bedside and in the bathroom for holding and displaying your jewellery.
